‘People were calling me fat’: Simone Holtznagel on her bumpy road to the top

BLONDE bombshell Simone Holtznagel is undoubtably Australia’s rising fashion star, but it hasn’t been an easy road to success.

“A lot of people think this has happened really quickly, but it hasn’t,” Holtznagel told Confidential from her home in LA.

“I have been modelling since I was 16 and I went on Australia’s Next Top Model when I was 17.

“My mum and dad are really proud because I have had lots of ups and downs along the way. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing.”

After being announced as second runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2011, Holtznagel, 21, not only received death threats from viewers, but she came down with an extreme case of psoriasis, forcing her to be housebound for a year.

“I went a little bit MIA modelling wise after Top Model,” the outspoken model said.

“I got two death threats after the show and was bullied, but I handled it pretty well.

“People were calling me fat. I was 17 years old. I didn’t know what to do.

“Then I woke up one morning and my whole body was covered with psoriasis. From my head to my toes. It looked like someone had thrown acid on me. I had that for a year and I couldn’t work or do anything.”

But since, Holtznagel has gone from strength to strength, her most prized gig being hand picked by fashion designer Paul Marciano to be a Guess Girl.

“Guess is the ultimate gig,” she said.

“That has always been my dream, to be a Guess girl.”
